But then they always are.) I'd now give it a score of 8. I've only recently caught up on reading the book, also v. good.

Amadeus (which I said last time had been 'spoilt' a bit for me by being very familiar with the far superior play on which it was based.) Recently I saw for the first time on TV (was it on More4?) the 'director's cut' version which adds about half an hour and I thought that this was quite a substantial improvement. In this light I might move my score up to agree with yours, though I feel it could have been EVEN better!

Avatar - I just don't its adulation. Even being the first full-length film I've ever sen in 3D I thought it rather dull and predictable. If I was generous I'd give it a 5.

Tie me Up.... I did see it and usually quite like Almodovar but I honestly can't recall a thing about it, so I'd hold back on the score until I see it again.

Manhattan - I think most of Woody admirers, of whom I'm definitely one, would nominate this as his best film of all. I'd put it in his top 5 (Hannah....is my own favourite) but it still gets a worthy 8.

Phone Booth - yes, good entertainment - 7.5.

Doctor Parnassus - as always with Gilliam, visually astonishing, but doesn't hold together very well. Yes, 7.

Damned United - Okay. Passes the time reasonably well. 6.

THE ENDRaybeardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12424095016313843883noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-177225541748552284.post-76097847011010355882010-09-17T16:34:59.107+01:002010-09-17T16:34:59.107+01:00I thought Prince of Persia was poor too. I agree,...I thought Prince of Persia was poor too. I agree, why did the characters have to keep explaining to each other what was happening?Jamesnoreply@blogger.com
