A plan comes together

As mentioned in my first vlog, I will be 40 next year and have decided to treat myself (and Pete) to an 18 day holiday starting at the end of May.

The plan is:
  • Fly to San Francisco and explore the city over a few days, perhaps watching a baseball game.
  • Drive to Los Angeles in a convertible Mustang mostly along the coast road over 2 days.
  • Stay in LA for a few days taking in the sights including Universal Studios.
  • Take a few days to drive to the Grand Canyon.
  • Then drive to Las Vegas, via the Hoover Dam where we have booked a few days in the Trump International with a suite overlooking the strip.
  • Then home!
If anyone has any suggestions of must-see places on our route, please let me know.

  2. I've done a similar trip, as part of a drive across America, you'll have a blast and look out for a great place to stya along Highway 1 on the Pacific Coast, between San Fran and LA, it looks directly over the ocean and you can see whales and shit.

  3. Check out the central California coast if you can. Carmel/Monterrey is beyond real. Also, check out downtown Vegas when you're there. It's seedy but secretly awesome too!

  4. Check out breakfast at Orphan Andy's near the Castro in San Francisco. Yum. Yum. Yum!! Also, and I'm sure you wouldn't miss it but feel I must suggest it, go to Alcatraz. It is AWESOME.

Oh and see if you can spot the World Famous Bushman. He is well worth a see!

  6. Hi. Came across your blog today. I'm an expat from Vegas now living in Cambridge.

I'd suggest checking out Zion and Arches National Parks in Utah. It would take you slightly off your planned route, but oh so worth it. Perhaps you can shave a couple of days from LA (it's over-rated anyway, imo), drive to Flagstaff, up to the Grand Canyon, then up to Eastern Utah, through Arches, then back down through Zion, and end up in Vegas.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy your trip! :)

Sounds like a great trip! I'm sure you'll do more than enough research and have plenty of things that you want to do, but I'd chip in:

    - I, slightly pathetically, really love going to the City Lights bookstore in SF, spiritual home of Jack Kerouac and all the Beat poets.

    - As you mention, I'd def go to a sports game while you are there and baseball is always the easiest thing to get tickets for.

    - Enjoy the Pacific Coastal Highway in your fancy car!

    - This is a suggestion rather than a recommendation, but as an alternative to spending a lot of time driving to Hoover and Grand Canyon, you could do that as a day trip flight from Vegas. Typically you would only fly over Hoover, not land, so you wouldn't see as much of this, but it would free up more time elsewhere.

    - On that note, don't underestimate how good Vegas is and make sure you give yourself some reasonable time there.

    Looking forward to the photos!

  8. Driving down the coast might a nice option but taking interstate 5 is much, much faster. It's how all the locals I know go from the Bay Area to LA.
