Kings Cross to St. Mary Axe

A little longer than the usual 30 second movie, here is the journey I took on Thursday afternoon from Kings Cross station to 30 St. Mary Axe via the Underground.

  1. Reminds me a bit of that well-known 'London to Brighton in 3 minutes' film, with the Beatles' 'Ticket to Ride' as soundtrack.

Btw what's happened to KX underground? I was there just 2 weeks ago. Previously, you could get from the underground to the main railway station in a couple of minutes. Now with the re-organisation including adjoining St Pancras (or 'PancrEas' as I once saw chalked up on a station notice board!) you've got at least a 5 minute trudge through connecting walkways and cavernous halls, or even longer if you're lugging bags along as I was. Sounds like things are going backwards if you ask me!

  2. The Underground links good at Kings X - better than before and there is still one that goes into the main station. Lots more to come so I hear. Not often that I defend the station planners, but Kings Cross/St P will be great in a year or so.

  3. I trust that you'll be proved right, Stephen. As at now, unless I keep taking the wrong turning (I've done the same journey four or five times in the last couple of years) it's a pain in the arse!

  4. Oh, I should have said that I always approach KX from the Victoria line. Before, it used to be up a couple of elevators and there you were - right in the mainline station! Now it's up elevators, flights of steps, turn this way, turn that, put your left leg in, the right one out - and after all that there's still an outside walk to the damn station! I'm then in need of a train seat just to get my breath back!
