Halifax and Nat West adverts

Has anyone in the UK seen that awful Halifax advert set in a radio studio? Who on earth thought that this was funny, let alone a good piece of marketing?! It looks like it was made by some film students high on skunk. To put it bluntly, when an advert is too embarrassing to watch, the advertisers have missed the point. Here is a link to it - there's no way I am embedding it into this blog!

And when bloggers (here and here) are slagging it off too, maybe it's time to drop it.

Another terrible financial advert is the one from Natwest which shows a financial adviser (who looks more like a used car salesman) visiting a lady who wants her kids to be savers. I have a major problem with this advert:

During the piece, the adviser says "That would look like bank accounts, it would look like investment bonds..."

NO it would not look like investment bonds!!! An investment bond is a lump sum product with relatively high minimum investment amounts. It would never be suitable for a child to save into given that you cant pay in regular amounts and anyway, the child would be a non-taxpayer so this plan could well be unsuitable anyway. How can this crap get past Natwest compliance and not piss off the FSA?!

I am not saying that Natwest advisers are doing a bad job, it's just that this advert does nothing to improve the image of financial professionals.

  1. I'm glad it's not just me. The fat one in the Halifax ad needs a slap. But in our current perverse culture he'll probably end up a celebrity. How long before he's doing chat shows?

  2. Count me in too. Thumbs down and a resounding BOO!

  3. Advisers should be providing financial planning, NOT selling products.

The guy in the Nat West advert is a product pusher.

  4. You said it all, both ads are truly irritating. It's bad enough that my current account is stuck with Halifax without throwing up crap ads like that.

  5. The Halifax are doing themselves no favors with those ads. Howard was bad enough after the frst one, then they did kinda ok, then that nice one with the Brigh Eyes track, was good. But these latest ones, I want to scream and shout each time they are on.

I'm also changing my account away from Halifax. I hate them soo much.

  6. I'll let you into a little secret on the Halifax, me and my comedy pal Martin auditioned for it, first off there was no script so we improvised some pretty funny stuff, clearly too funny as the script came out and it was awful but they did steal one of our gags about a phone-in.

The cheeky bastards deserve to burn in advert hell for that.

  8. I was interested and enjoyed the posts here why. Because Nat West and the Halifax Bank are part of the financial bollocks that has wrecked economies. They now want to convey the message that their cuddly, warm and customer caring institutions havn't spunked investments at all and they can really help you in the future. What TWATS. I hate them

  9. BOTH ads very, very annoying and make me very angry grrr...the fat ugly one that speaks like she has a mouthful of her breakfast (cakes) in her mouth in the Halifax radio station advert real really fuckin pisses me off and I would love to punch her on the nose and I don't hit or condone hitting women but she is no woman!! She is a greedy typical fat banker; Halifax tried to come after me for money I soon fucked them off my tail...HA SWIVEL GOT LOADS A CASH OUT OF YA!
And the other fat boy in the ad...the one that looks like he would smell of smeg and sweat, you can tell he sits in front of his pc in his spare time playing WOW and wanking off to porn...ha ha lol.....
NOW the NAT WEST...awful bank awful smug greedy bastards this is the bank that is encouraging us to save with them... (YE Just so your fat Kat bosses can give themselves 3 million a year raises)...the bastards have helped put this country in debt...and the government what do they do?..Help them out! Give them fucking cash injections and where does that go...yes you guessed it straight into the fat Kat kitty AGAIN. (SWINGS AND ROUNDABOUTS COME TO MIND) Them horrible little queer advisers in the TV ad make me cringe I would love to meet any one of them wankers and argue about the crap they spout with a cricket bat,...I mean that scene where he goes to visit that pregnant woman..ye right they don't fuckin do that, the only reason he is visiting her is probably she is carrying his kid, and the new ones where they go to a secondary school and try to brain-wash kids is the fuckin worse thing I have seen, it brings to light along with TV advertising in general that the brainwashing of our children has stooped to an all time low!......fuckin hate them all......I have to turn over when the ads come on!!..They annoy me that much...whatever happened to classic funny ads that use to make you laugh. I would never ever, ever bank with CRAP WEST or the Halifax and I thought it would be the end of the stupid Halifax adverts when they got rid of that twat with the round glasses I use to picture cutting off his ears lol.....and cutting his fingers off with tin snips and then tell him to fucking sing “Who gives you fuckin extra”...ye who gives you extra now CUNT...GRRRRR LOL HA HA.
    WANKERS LOT OF THEM!

  10. NAT West teaching kids in a school about sensible financial behaviour! ?? Planning lessons as part of the educational system? How about taking a running jump back to your delapidated high street establishments! Also ... Letting the nat west mob into my life "I may want a sports car or to get engaged" strikes me as being one of the worst ideas possible! Get lost you thieving lying bunch of tossers.

Now on to Halifax adverts. .... Have you ever seen such utter garbage? Halifax ought to fire it's ad agency and it's marketing director. - the first for coming up with such rot and the latter for signing it off.

  11. What the hell is that "ISA ISA baby" crap all about! With the bird in the studio doing that chicken thing with her neck - god! I'll never go into the Halifax ever again.

  12. I want to punch everyone in the 'ISA ISA' advert.

    Very hard.

    And twice.

  13. I'd like to see someone burst into the "studio" with a chain saw and do some serious damage. Does anyone know which ad agency is responsible so that I can write to them and offer some advice to their creative director? It's seriously poor advertising. Looks like it's been dreamed up by sixth form students.

  14. I work for LloydsBankingGroup and I need to find the cretins who thought that these Halifax adverts would help the bank recover. It is an utter shambles. Its the basic things that fuck me off, the choice of music - just so obvious, the plain boring fat ugly suited twats that 'star' in the advert. The idea of a radio station - what the fuck were they thinking? Who do they think these adverts are aimed at? They show no sign of 'social awareness', in fact i think they have achieved the opposite, an advert that can put off an entire population, well done.
Poor stupid LloydTSB with their nice gentle adverts that don't make you want to commit murder are likely to be dragged down by the HBOS hierarchy, all the top jobs are going to the HBOS bigwigs, so nice move Victor Blanc - you Big pompous fucking twat cunt bastard.

  16. They have actually made a new version to torment us with - it's got a bird who looks like a half starved bush baby doing an announcement on a key-board being assisted by a fat bloke with long hair who looks like he's escaped from fat farm. God! When WILL this torture end?

  17. I've just seen the "high five" Halifax ad. The fat bloke with shit Ginger hair looks like he'd stink of sweat and unwashed hair. If that's the Halifax bank image then I'm not their target Market.

  18. That one has now been replaced by anither ad where two girls are "on air" and one hysterically almost spills a mug of tea over the equipment. What a great laugh! - husterically funny and pithy ad! well done Halifax! High 5!!!

  19. I have to say that I've just had a really good laugh reading all your comments about the Halifax adverts. I just Googled "why are the Halifax adverts so shit" and was directed to your thread. I was watching ITV earlier and the Halifax advert in the radio studio came on......it almost made me turn over to BBC1 to watch the England game......that's pretty desperate in anyones book!!! I hate the Halifax adverts with a passion, they are too bad for words.

  20. Couldn't agree more. I just blogged about this and then did the due diligence of seeing what others thought. Back to front thinking, yes - I probably shouldn't have wasted my breath! That said, I have collated all the offending ads in the one place if you fancy getting angry all over again. I have counter-balanced this with a video of Gordon Brown smiling however, just to stop people going into their local branch and garroting their bank managers (if they can find them)...

  21. If they put steve wright into the Halifax radio station it could be an even shitter scenario - I think Halifax has missed a trick there! They have not done "all they can" to be the most rubbish ad on the planet.

  22. After twenty fecking years of crap Halifax adverts they have finally crafted the most annoying populist drivel. The pinnacle of shiteness.

  23. Thank goodness, i thought it was just me.

  24. I'd not seen a Halifax ad for ages so I guess I'd been lulled into a false sense of security. There I was watching the news, the ads came on,a young couple looking for their first home, the trials and tribulations they go through and ...this dreadful singing in the background.A horrible sense of deja-vu swept over me but before I could switch channels I had to witness those drones singing their hymn of praise to bankers Please stop Halifax,I'm begging you,,I cant take any more.
